On Jan. 27, police received reports indicating that someone in an online gaming group claimed they would place a bomb at the Admiralty Station on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Following intelligence analysis, officers identified a suspect and arrested a 31-year-old local man in the Sha Tin district on Feb. 6, charging him with "bomb threat" and "possessing imitation firearms." During a search of his residence, suspected imitation firearms and other evidence were found. The police stated that the arrested individual has been provisionally charged with "bomb threat," and the case will be brought to the Eastern Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning (Feb. 9).
Earlier, the police mentioned that upon receiving the report of the crime, they quickly deployed a large number of uniformed personnel, including patrol teams, special tactical squads, and anti-terror units, to conduct a large-scale search of the relevant subway stations and nearby areas, eventually finding no suspicious items. The police remind the public that bomb threats are serious offenses, and those convicted can face up to five years in prison. Anyone possessing imitation firearms is committing a crime, and the maximum penalty upon conviction can be up to three years of imprisonment.
Based on the current investigation, the police believe that this individual acted alone and has no accomplices. He is described as a military equipment and online gaming enthusiast. It is understood that the online game in question is League of Legends (commonly known as LOL).
