On Feb. 1, Billie Eilish made history at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards by winning Song of the Year for her single "WILDFLOWER", marking her third win in the category.
The American singer-songwriter used her acceptance speech to address political issues, focusing on the controversial practices of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her remarks culminated in a sharp condemnation: "FXXX ICE," which was met with resounding applause and cheers from the audience.
Eilish began her speech by acknowledging the land's history, stating, "No one is illegal on stolen land." She expressed her hope for change, saying, "It's just really hard to know what to say and what do right now, and I just feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting, speaking up, and protesting. Our voices really do matter, and the people matter. FXXX ICE."
Since Jan. 30, more than 300 demonstrations have taken place across the US, including major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
Protesters have rallied under slogans such as "ICE Out" and called for a nationwide shutdown, urging people to stop working, attending school, or shopping as a form of resistance. The movement, organized by the group "National Shutdown," claims to have gained support from 46 states and over 250 locations.
US President Donald Trump weighed in on the matter via social media on Jan. 30, directing the Department of Homeland Security not to intervene in protests in Democrat-led states unless explicitly requested by local authorities.
Trump emphasized that local governments are responsible for protecting federal property but instructed ICE agents to maintain a strong stance in safeguarding federal facilities.
