South Korean girl group NewJeans has been embroiled in a legal battle with their agency HYBE and its sub-label ADOR. On Dec. 29, ADOR released an official statement announcing the unilateral termination of Danielle's exclusive contract. The statement directly pointed fingers at "a family member of Danielle" and "former CEO Min Hee-jin," emphasizing legal action against them.
According to the statement, Danielle was treated differently from other members due to "major responsibility for the dispute" that allegedly caused the member's departure and delayed NewJeans' comeback.
ADOR placed the blame on Danielle's family member and former CEO Min Hee-jin, citing their actions as the direct cause of both the member's exit and the group's comeback postponement. Consequently, the label decided to terminate Danielle's contract independently and pursue legal measures against the responsible parties.
Korean media reported that Danielle might face a breach-of-contract penalty of ₩108 billion (approximately HK$585 million), calculated based on ADOR's projected revenue of ₩111.18 billion for 2024 and the contract's original expiration date of July 31, 2029.
