On Nov. 20, World Children's Day, James Liang, co-founder of Trip.com Group Limited, announced the establishment of the "Genovation Foundation Limited" in Hong Kong.
The foundation, funded personally by Liang, aims to invest HK$500 million over five years to address low fertility rates through three core strategies: economic subsidies, cultural advocacy, and policy research.
In its initial phase, the foundation will launch a pilot program in HK, providing a dedicated childbirth subsidy for full-time doctoral students. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, families of full-time doctoral students in HK who give birth to children will be eligible to apply for a HK$50,000 parenting and education grant to ease financial burdens.
The application process is designed to be simple and efficient. Applicants need only submit their child's birth certificate, proof of full-time doctoral enrollment, and academic transcripts. The foundation pledges to review applications within 14 working days and disburse funds within five working days after approval.
