The "Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open 2025" is being held at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium from yesterday (Oct. 25) to Nov. 2. Today (Oct. 26), a celebrity leaders' match took place at the venue, featuring well-known singer Michael Cheung and Panther Chan participating in a fun hitting game; former tennis star and event director Li Na was also present.
Before the match, Cheung and Chan sang together to support the competition. The two were divided into red and white teams, and the organizers set up two corresponding colored grids on-site. The rules were simple: each team had an unlimited number of hits within a set time, scoring points by hitting the numbers on the grid.
Both singers frequently served, and their scores climbed rapidly. During the game, Cheung had an exceptional streak, hitting the scorecard five times in a row, pulling the score gap to nearly 30 points, ultimately leading to their victory.
After the match, Cheung and Chan both expressed that it was their first time playing tennis, and it was "not as hard to pick up" as they had imagined. Cheung mentioned he suddenly felt "on fire," scoring consecutively, and believed he had a good athletic instinct. Chan thanked the on-site tennis coach, stating their guidance not only improved her skills but also ignited her passion for tennis. When asked about their support for this event, both said they wanted to "support Hong Kong" and cheer for the local players participating.
Li remarked that there are "no shortcuts to playing tennis; just spend time on the court." She encouraged the audience, saying, "For your health and beauty, play more tennis."
This tennis open gathers the world's top female tennis players, including Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic, rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko, Philippine newcomer Alexandra Eala, as well as Hong Kong players Zhang Weihuan and Wang Kangyi.
It is reported that tomorrow (Oct. 27) marks the first day of the main competition, where the public can enter for free. Reporters also observed that a "Tennis Fun Zone" has been set up outside the main venue, which will be open to the public for free during the tournament.
Tickets for the event are currently on sale on Klook, with first-class tickets priced from HKD 220 to 970; second-class tickets priced from HKD 160 to 760.
