With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technology, AI talent has become a key differentiator for tech companies striving to stand out in the competition. Numerous firms are actively competing for AI professionals through initiatives such as recruitment campaigns, scholarship programs, and specialized talent projects, aiming to build their own talent advantages and lay a solid foundation for the intelligent revolution.

On Oct. 20, Huawei officially launched its 'Global Top AI Talent Recruitment Initiative,' positioning Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) as 'a revolution beyond imagination.' The company is seeking elite talent in the AI field worldwide to assemble a world-class AI team and scale the peak of AGI. Last week, Tencent also launched a scholarship program targeting AI research and innovation, where recipients have the opportunity to intern or gain employment at Tencent.

Premium Growth Platforms and Flexible Computing Power Allocation

A review by Wen Wei Po reveals that this recruitment campaign underscores Huawei's intense demand for AI talent and its well-defined candidate profile.

The company seeks individuals with the distinctive traits of "Academic Pioneers," "Technical Passion," and "Innovative Thinking." Ideal candidates should demonstrate academic excellence, robust mathematical and scientific foundations, and continuous learning capabilities, or possess heavyweight research achievements and top international competition awards. They must harbor a profound belief in and fervor for AI technology, aspiring to become technical leaders. Additionally, they need the courage to break new ground, the acumen to discern the essence of technology, and the ability to translate ideas into practice.

For those who join, Huawei offers a highly attractive development ecosystem. On the technical frontier, they can leverage Ascend computing power to tackle global cutting-edge AI challenges and participate in building world-leading large-scale models. Regarding growth platforms, opportunities exist to collaborate with Turing Award and Fields Medal laureates and engage with industry leaders on frontier trends. In terms of application scenarios, diverse business environments — including the HarmonyOS, intelligent devices, intelligent driving, and cloud computing — enable a self-developed, closed-loop ecosystem from "model to application to data." Furthermore, the company provides ample Ascend computing resources for flexible allocation, a culture that encourages innovation and tolerates trial and error, along with competitive compensation packages.

The recruitment targets undergraduate and master's students graduating from domestic universities between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2026, as well as doctoral candidates from domestic institutions and all degree-level students from overseas universities graduating between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2026.

Position offerings for undergraduates cover multiple domains such as AI Infra Engineer, AI Software Engineer, and AI Algorithm Engineer. Doctoral roles focus on cutting-edge fields, including AI algorithms, large-scale model algorithms, multimodal algorithms, computer vision, and natural language processing.

Job locations span numerous domestic and international cities, including Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Dongguan, Nanjing, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Emphasis on Fundamental Innovation and Comprehensive, Customized Cultivation

As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes the global industrial landscape, Huawei is not alone in its aggressive strategic planning. A multitude of tech firms have joined the fierce competition for AI talent, striving to secure a position in this pivotal field.

Tencent has committed substantial efforts to recruiting and nurturing AI professionals. On Oct. 14, the company launched the Qingyun Scholarship, focusing specifically on fundamental research and applied innovation within artificial intelligence. The scholarship targets master's and doctoral candidates of Chinese nationality enrolled at institutions in the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, with academic concentrations in computer science, AI, and their interdisciplinary domains.

Before this initiative, Tencent had already introduced the "Qingyun Program" for AI talent, identifying large-scale models as its primary investment area and offering selected individuals comprehensive, customized cultivation programs. In August, the company further initiated an AI Product Manager Trainee Program, aiming to recruit top global AI product talent. This program leverages systematic training, specialized exercises, and cross-disciplinary learning, pooling Tencent's superior product resources, training materials, and mentorship to identify and develop exceptional AI product managers.

Luo Haibo, Tencent's Global Head of Recruitment, emphasized the growing importance of foundational research, stating, "As AI technology continues to evolve, fundamental and original research becomes increasingly critical."

Over 60 percent of Alibaba's Campus Roles Are AI-related

In its 2026 campus recruitment drive, Alibaba Group has revealed that more than 60 percent of its open positions are linked to artificial intelligence. Within specific business units like Alibaba Cloud and DingTalk, the proportion of AI-focused roles reaches as high as 80 percent.

Through diverse role offerings and attractive compensation packages, Alibaba is actively courting AI talent to inject fresh vitality into its AI business development. Specifically, Alibaba Cloud has introduced the A Star Program and the AI Clouder Program, targeting top-tier graduates with attributes such as high-impact research publications and influential open-source project contributions. These individuals are offered superior remuneration and specialized professional support.

Meanwhile, JD.com has launched the "Top Young Technical Talent Program." This initiative is open to outstanding bachelor's, master's, and doctoral graduates from universities worldwide, as well as technical professionals who have graduated within the past two years. Notably, the program places no upper limit on compensation, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing battle for expertise.
