The Hong Kong Observatory stated today (Oct. 17) that a low-pressure area located east of the Philippines has intensified into a tropical depression. As of 10 am, the tropical depression was positioned about 1,130 kilometers east of Manila and is expected to move west at around 30 kilometers per hour. The Observatory predicts that this tropical cyclone will approach the Luzon area over the next two days and gradually strengthen before entering the northeastern South China Sea. It will begin to shift southwest and weaken under the influence of the northeast monsoon, although the timing and location of this turn remain uncertain. Due to the combined effects of the monsoon and the tropical cyclone, strong winds and rain are expected along the southern coast of China from early to mid-next week, with a significant drop in temperature and rough seas.

The Observatory indicated that an upper-level anti-cyclone will continue to bring generally clear weather to Guangdong over the next two days, with extreme heat in inland areas. A strong northeast monsoon is expected to reach the Guangdong coast on Sunday. Today's weather is generally sunny and hot, with a light easterly breeze; initially, offshore winds will be moderate to strong. Tomorrow (Oct. 18) will also be generally sunny and hot, while on Sunday, the north winds will gradually strengthen, followed by a few days of strong winds and increasing cloudiness with occasional rain. Temperatures will significantly drop to around 21 degrees Celsius, and some low-lying coastal areas may experience flooding in the evening.

According to the Observatory's nine-day weather forecast, Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 21 and Oct. 22) are expected to be generally cloudy with occasional rain and rough seas. The minimum temperature on Tuesday will be 22 degrees Celsius, with north winds at force 5 to 6, occasionally reaching force 7 offshore, and force 8 in highland areas. The minimum temperature on Wednesday will drop to 21 degrees Celsius, with highland winds still reaching force 7. On Thursday (Oct. 23), the minimum temperature will be 21 degrees Celsius, generally cloudy with a few showers.
