Jackie Chan, Tony Leung Ka-fai, and Zhang Zifeng lead the cast of "The Shadow's Edge". The film arrives in Hong Kong theaters on Sept. 11.
A reimagination of Yau Nai-hoi's classic thriller "Eye in the Sky," this new adaptation, directed by Yang Zi, delves into the high-stakes game of cat and mouse between police and criminals. The movie highlights the first-ever direct on-screen confrontation between cinematic legends Jackie Chan and Tony Leung, featuring spectacular action set-pieces.
Selected for the 30th Busan International Film Festival, the film also stars Tony Leung, who has been invited to serve on the festival's jury. Since its mainland release, "The Shadow's Edge" has soared toward RMB 1.1 billion at the box office, earning praise as this summer's most exhilarating action hit. Beyond commercial success, the film introduces a promising new generation of action performers, including Cisha, Jun, and Lin Qiunan, who deliver remarkable martial arts performances.
While Jackie Chan and Tony Leung's fight sequences have stunned audiences—particularly Leung's powerfully athletic display at age 67—Leung himself has said the real highlight is the emergence of the young action cast. Director Yang Zi prioritized martial arts background during casting, resulting in a standout "Wolf Pack" of villains played by actors with deep roots in combat disciplines: Cisha (16 years of Sanda), Jun (traditional martial arts), Lin Qiunan (15 years of Taekwondo), Li Zekun (15 years of Wushu), and Wang Zhenwei (24 years of martial arts and stunts).
This fierce young ensemble has not only reinvigorated the action genre but also built a passionate fanbase, positioning themselves as a new wave of screen martial artists.
