JD.com (HKEX: 09618) announced today (Aug. 15) that it has officially completed the acquisition of Hong Kong-based Kai Bo Food Supermarket. To celebrate the acquisition, JD Kai Bo Supermarket will launch a three-day promotional campaign starting tomorrow (Aug. 16), offering a 20% discount on all items.

The promotion will include an initial batch of dozens of JD.com supply chain products, with additional products set to enter the HK market in the near future.

Leveraging JD.com's robust supply chain capabilities, the acquisition aims to enhance Kai Bo's omni-channel business development, expand the availability of premium products in HK's retail market, and strengthen JD.com's fresh food supply chain network in the Greater Bay Area. The move also accelerates JD.com's expansion into HK's local retail sector.

Kai Bo currently operates over 90 stores across HK and employs more than 1,000 staff. A JD.com spokesperson stated that the company's business strategy revolves around its supply chain. The acquisition of Kai Bo is expected to significantly strengthen JD.com's supply chain strategy and marks the company's formal entry into HK's physical retail market.

By fully integrating Kai Bo's offline store network, JD.com aims to enhance product diversity and price competitiveness in HK's retail space.
