Brooklyn-based ice cream brand OddFellows Ice Cream Co. has partnered with baby product company Frida to release a limited-edition breast milk-flavored ice cream. While the flavor does not actually contain human breast milk, it has successfully sparked curiosity and drawn large crowds of eager tasters.
The unique ice cream was launched to celebrate Frida's new 2-in-1 manual breast pump. Despite its provocative name, the ice cream is made without human breast milk. Instead, it incorporates a nutrient-rich ingredient known as liposomal bovine colostrum, which is packed with antibodies and nutrients.
The flavor is available in limited quantities until Aug. 10, with only 50 free cups offered daily for tasting. The novelty has even led consumers nationwide to order it online for delivery.
Frida explained that the ice cream is crafted with a base of fresh milk, cream, nonfat milk powder, egg yolks, and sugar, complemented by honey and fruit juice. The key ingredient, liposomal bovine colostrum, is recognized for its high nutritional value and immune-boosting properties.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, colostrum—found in both bovine milk and human breast milk—is widely celebrated for its health benefits.
While opinions on the flavor have been mixed, most consumers agree that it's a fun and intriguing experience.
