Hong Kong fencer Ryan Choi Chun-yin has made history by clinching the gold medal in the men's individual foil event at the World Fencing Championships.
Choi defeated Russian fencer Kirill Borodachev 15-9 in the final to become the first-ever HK fencer to win a world championship title. This marks the best result in the history of HK fencing.
The newly crowned "Asian Champion" advanced to the final after defeating fencers from Italy and Hungary in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. In the final, Choi initially trailed slightly but quickly turned the match around, maintaining a strong lead to secure the victory and claim his first individual medal at the World Fencing Championships.
Vivian Kong, who won the gold medal in women's epee at the Paris Olympics, earned bronze medals at the World Fencing Championships in both 2019 and 2022.
