In the northwestern corner of China's Hunan Province, a landscape of impossible grandeur rises—the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. As China's first national park, this is the place that inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountains featured in the movie Avatar.

On Avatar's official website, it describes the Hallelujah Mountains as: "The Hallelujah Mountains are comprised of mountains floating in the air above Pandora. "While the peaks in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park don't actually levitate, wispy blankets of cloud and fog intertwine between the quartz-sandstone pillars, creating the illusion of mountains floating in mid-air.

In 1992, the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2004, it was listed as UNESCO Global Geopark. The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is not merely scenery, but a living geological epic sculpted over 380 million years. Here are some of the must-see attractions in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Yuanjiajie
Step into the surreal landscape that immortalized Zhangjiajie on the global stage—Yuanjiajie. This 1,074-meter-high natural mesa is the inspiration for Pandora’s floating "Hallelujah Mountains" in the movie Avatar.

Tianzi Mountain
Tianzi Mountain is renowned for its natural marvels: the billowing cloud sea, the ethereal moon glow, the sun’s radiant beams, and the winter blanket of snow. The Tianzi Mountain is not just a static vista, but a living canvas that rewrites itself with every shifting season, hour, and breath of wind.

Bailong Elevator
Cloaked in mist and myth, the Bailong Elevator defies gravity on the face of a quartz-sandstone cliff in Zhangjiajie. It is the tallest outdoor lift in the world. It provides a unique angle for sightseeing. Visitors can enjoy the breathtaking views of the sandstone pillars through the glass windows as if they are wandering between the mountains themselves.
