According to reports from foreign media on July 7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during his visit to the White House, informed U.S. President Donald Trump that he has nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations.
Netanyahu told reporters that at this moment, U.S. President Donald Trump is making peace. Peace is being achieved in various regions. He then presented Trump with a letter addressed to the Nobel Committee, stating, "This letter nominates you as a candidate for the Peace Prize, and you are fully deserving."
Trump has consistently expressed frustration over his predecessor Barack Obama receiving the Nobel Prize in 2009, just before the surge of troops in Afghanistan. He has repeatedly complained that the Nobel Committee has overlooked several of his "diplomatic achievements," including mediating the India-Pakistan conflict and the Serbia-Kosovo dispute. He has also claimed to have "maintained peace between Egypt and Ethiopia." Additionally, he emphasized his role in facilitating the Abraham Accords, stating, "This agreement has advanced the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab countries."
This marks Netanyahu's third visit to the U.S. since Trump resumed office in January. Observers expect discussions between the Trump administration and Netanyahu's team to focus on the Gaza ceasefire negotiations, the future of Gaza, and the potential for normalizing relations between Israel and Arab nations. Before departing, Netanyahu expressed hope that his meeting with Trump would "advance" a ceasefire agreement that aligns with Israeli demands. Trump indicated that there is "a possibility of reaching an agreement within this week," but noted, "the situation is changing every day." When asked about the feasibility of a two-state solution in the Middle East, he replied, "I don't know."
Israeli forces continue to carry out intense attacks on the Gaza Strip. According to reports from Palestinian news agencies on July 7, Israeli military operations that day resulted in the deaths of at least 35 Palestinians.
