Amazon founder Jeff Bezos disclosed that he sold more than 3.3 million shares of Amazon stock for approximately US$736.7 million (around HK$5.785 billion). This marks his first sale of Amazon stock this year.

The sale is part of a pre-arranged trading plan established in March. Under this plan, Bezos intends to sell up to 25 million shares of Amazon stock by May 29 of next year.

Bezos stepped down as CEO of Amazon in 2021 but still serves as chairman. In recent years, he has regularly sold Amazon stock, although he remains the company's largest individual shareholder.

Following the latest sale, Bezos still holds about 905 million shares of Amazon stock.

On July 1, Amazon’s stock price saw a slight increase. In April, amid growing concerns over US President Trump’s tariff policies, Amazon's stock price fell to a year-low but has since rebounded significantly, remaining relatively flat year-to-date.

Bezos has previously stated that he plans to sell about US$1 billion worth of Amazon stock each year to fund his space exploration company, Blue Origin. He has also donated shares to his charitable initiative, Day 1 Academies, which aims to provide free Montessori preschool education to children in low-income communities.

The recent stock sale coincided with his grand wedding to Lauren Sanchez last week in Venice. The star-studded event lasted three days and sparked protests from some local residents, with estimates suggesting the wedding cost around US$50 million.

Bezos currently ranks third on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with a net worth of approximately US$240 billion, trailing only Tesla CEO Elon Musk at US$363 billion and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at US$260 billion.
