On the morning of July 1, 2025, a landmark moment in Chinese aviation history unfolded as Air China Flight CA757, operated by the domestically developed C909 aircraft, touched down smoothly at Ulaanbaatar International Airport after its inaugural international journey from Hohhot. The arrival was marked by a ceremonial water arch salute - aviation's highest honor - with Mongolian hosts in traditional dress welcoming passengers with ceremonial scarves and dairy treats.
This maiden international voyage represents a significant milestone for China's civil aviation industry, showcasing the C909's capabilities on the global stage. The "flag-carrying" designation, indicated by the aircraft's distinctive national emblem livery, underscores the flight's importance as a symbol of China's aerospace achievements.

Five years since its introduction into commercial service, the C909 has established an impressive operational record within Air China's fleet. The carrier now operates 35 C909 aircraft that have collectively logged over 110,000 safe flight hours while transporting more than 4.13 million passengers. Operating primarily from its Beijing, Chengdu and Hohhot hubs, these aircraft currently serve over 30 routes with more than 100 daily scheduled flights.
The new Hohhot-Ulaanbaatar international route marks a strategic expansion of Air China's network along key Belt and Road Initiative corridors. The airline currently maintains 68 BRI routes connecting 29 countries across Asia, Africa and Europe, with plans to launch additional international services in the 2025 summer/autumn season, including Beijing-Cairo and Beijing-Almaty routes.
This successful international debut comes as Chinese aircraft manufacturers continue to expand their global presence, offering alternatives to traditional Western aviation manufacturers. The warm reception in Mongolia, following recent enhanced aviation agreements between the two nations, highlights the growing international recognition of China's aviation capabilities. Industry analysts anticipate this proving flight will pave the way for more international routes for the C909 in the coming years.
