Earlier, U.S. President Trump ordered a reduction in the scale of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, halting funding for Radio Free Europe (RFE) and Radio Free Asia (RFA) as of March 15. Today (June 30), Radio Free Asia announced that its Cantonese service will cease operations starting tomorrow due to the termination of U.S. government funding.

Founded in 1996 and funded by the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Radio Free Asia has long been viewed as a mouthpiece for U.S. government propaganda, frequently publishing numerous inaccurate reports and commentary that discredit mainland China and Hong Kong. Particularly during the 2019 unrest, Radio Free Asia aligned itself with protests, vilifying Hong Kong police actions, inciting public hatred against law enforcement, and spreading misinformation that undermined the rule of law in Hong Kong while glorifying violent protesters and promoting the so-called "lawful means to achieve justice."
