A series of three chain-reaction accidents on Fanling Highway this morning (June 25) caused severe traffic congestion in Sheung Shui, with bus services disrupted for hours until all lanes were finally cleared near noon.
The first and most serious collision occurred at 8:56 am when a Tesla traveling in the fast lane towards Yuen Long suddenly lost control near Kwu Tung, swerving across lanes and colliding head-on with a KMB double-decker bus in the middle lane. The impact triggered a multi-vehicle pileup involving two private cars and a van, scattering broken glass across the roadway. Several bus passengers sustained injuries, forcing three bus routes to detour.
Just as crews cleared the first wreckage, another four-vehicle collision occurred at 11:03 am on the Kowloon-bound carriageway near Pak Wo Road, followed minutes later by a third crash near Greenpark Villa at 11:29 am - both involving multiple commercial and private vehicles with reports of chest and leg injuries.
Northern District Councilor Ko Wai-kei described "serious congestion" paralyzing Sheung Shui's public transport network, with both city buses and rural minibuses affected. Frustrated netizens complained the area had "completely shut down," while others darkly joked about the crashes "piling up like hotpot ingredients" despite clear weather.
All affected lanes reopened by midday, with normal KMB and Long Win bus services resuming. Police are investigating the causes of the sequential accidents that turned the morning commute into a transportation nightmare for northern residents.
