A 23-year-old Michigan man, Charles Robinson, was arrested by the FBI after falsely claiming there was a bomb on a plane to retaliate for being denied boarding due to tardiness.
The incident occurred on June 5 when Robinson, a resident of Monroe, Michigan, missed his Spirit Airlines Flight 2145 and was told he needed to purchase a new ticket. At 6:45 a.m., Robinson called authorities and falsely reported that someone was planning to blow up the airport.
During the call, he fabricated a detailed description of an imaginary bomber and claimed that the individual would carry an undetectable bomb through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). He urged authorities to prevent the flight from taking off.
Police immediately evacuated passengers from the flight, conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft, and deployed bomb-sniffing dogs to investigate. No explosives were found, and the bomb threat was confirmed to be a hoax.
Later, as Robinson attempted to board another flight, he was apprehended by federal agents and charged with making a false bomb threat.
Robinson appeared in court for the first time on June 6, where a judge granted him bail. The case is scheduled for a second hearing on June 27.
