A traffic collision occurred in the early hours of today (June 7) around 2:00 AM on Gloucester Road westbound near Fenwick Street in Wan Chai, involving a private car rear-ending a taxi. The 23-year-old male driver of the private car and the 63-year-old male taxi driver sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. The private car driver, who smelled of alcohol, failed a breathalyzer test and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. He is currently detained for further investigation.
A circulating dashcam video shows a vehicle traveling along Gloucester Road toward Central. As it passed near the Wan Chai Police Headquarters, a Tesla was seen speeding from behind and violently colliding with the taxi. The impact caused the taxi to lift off the ground momentarily, scattering debris across the road. The taxi and the Tesla stopped in the second and third left lanes, respectively. Two individuals were seen exiting the Tesla afterward.
Police reported that at approximately 2:42 AM, a private car and a taxi were traveling westbound on Gloucester Road when the private car rear-ended the taxi near the Police Headquarters. Officers arriving at the scene detected alcohol on the 23-year-old private car driver. Preliminary investigations confirmed he failed the breathalyzer test, leading to his arrest for suspected drunk driving.
