The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 officially launched in Hong Kong at midnight on June 5, drawing massive crowds of enthusiastic gamers. The official Nintendo-authorized store, Assemble, hosted a "midnight pickup" event last night (June 4), where over 200 pre-order customers arrived before 10 p.m., filling the mall and extending the queue all the way to the elevator lobby.
As the clock approached midnight, store staff unveiled several large boxes marked with the Switch 2 logo and announced the start of the pick-up process. The event continued until 12:30 a.m., with many successful buyers unboxing their consoles on the spot, sitting on the floor to explore their new purchases.
The launch in HK mirrors the frenzy seen globally. According to US retailer Best Buy, the initial supply of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles is expected to sell out almost immediately after release. Fans reportedly began lining up outside stores hours before the official launch, with some picking up pre-ordered consoles while others hoped to grab remaining in-store stock.
Jason Bonfig, Best Buy's Senior Executive Vice President of Customer Offerings, stated that it could take days or even weeks for Nintendo to replenish stock.
GameStop, the largest independent video game retailer, echoed similar predictions. A GameStop spokesperson noted that the Switch 2 will likely sell out on its first day of availability. However, the company plans to restock weekly to meet ongoing demand.
