Financial Secretary Paul Chan confirmed the government will focus resources exclusively on the Northern Metropolis development while putting the controversial "Lantau Tomorrow Vision" reclamation project on hold, stating authorities would only complete ongoing technical studies "in case we ever need to proceed" with the latter.
Responding to Legislative Council queries on Sunday (June 1), Chan emphasized land creation won't halt due to market fluctuations, citing "negative consequences" from past pauses. He assured lawmakers the government would control the development pace: "Completed land reserves won't be rushed to market."
The finance chief outlined a four-pronged land supply strategy covering government sales, railway property projects, private developer initiatives, and urban renewal schemes. "Our immediate priority is perfecting the Northern Metropolis," Chan stated when addressing concerns about oversupply, "before reconsidering the Lantau Tomorrow Vision."
