According to a May 11 report by the New York Post, U.S. House Representative Tim Moore shared a video on social media showcasing a hidden passage beneath the U.S. Capitol's Lincoln Hall, which he described as one of the staircases allegedly used by British soldiers during their 1814 attack on Washington, D.C., when they breached the Capitol.

In the video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Moore explained: The Capitol, built in the 18th century, has many hidden passages. When I pull up this floorboard, you can see a passageway with historic stairs that have since been sealed off. Joking about his exploration, he added: Believe it or not, even a big guy like me managed to climb down there and get back out of that hole.

The report states that the secret passage leads to the exterior of the Capitol building. Moore noted, "I've heard this was one of the staircases British troops used during their 1814 invasion to storm the Capitol, though I can't verify that claim."

The New York Post highlighted that the U.S. Capitol, completed in 1793, was set ablaze by British forces during the War of 1812, an event that also saw the White House burned. The hidden passage's entrance reportedly bears engraved signatures, likely left by lawmakers and others seeking to leave their mark on history.
