The Legislative Council has passed an amendment to increase fines for building water leakage, air conditioner dripping, and others to HK$50,000.

After the amendment, if court orders regarding building water leakage, air conditioner dripping, and "rubbish houses" are not complied with, the maximum fine will be raised to HK$50,000, with a daily penalty of HK$600. The time allowed for authorities to conduct on-site investigations will be extended to 10 pm. Fines for pest infestations, street obstruction, and illegal street advertisements will also increase, with the time limit for removing items reduced from four hours to no less than half an hour. Additionally, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department will be empowered to request merchants to remove obstructive items without police intervention. These related proposals will take effect three months after the regulations are published.
