From May 7 to 10, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Russia at the invitation of the Russian government and attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. This visit will inject new momentum into the comprehensive strategic partnership in a new era between China and Russia. Two major points of interest are how China and Russia will jointly uphold international fairness and justice, and how they will work together to provide more stability in a turbulent world.
Exploring Cooperation in Scientific Innovation and Green Development
The diplomatic relationship between the leaders of China and Russia has played an important strategic role in maintaining a high-level operation of bilateral relations. During this visit, it is expected that the leaders will engage in candid discussions on bilateral relations and other international issues of mutual concern. It is believed that both sides will reach a series of important consensuses, injecting new dynamism into China-Russia relations and adding new vitality to their high-level cooperation. This visit is expected to further strengthen strategic alignment, expand the cooperation space, and explore potential collaborations, promoting mutual benefits.
Regarding the key directions of China-Russia cooperation, Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently revealed that both sides will solidify the foundation of economic and energy cooperation, explore potential collaborations in technological innovation and green development, and create new growth points for cooperation. They will further expand mutual openness, share beneficial experiences, and deepen industrial integration. Additionally, they aim to advance the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with the Eurasian Economic Union, leading regional cooperation and ensuring the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains through high-level China-Russia cooperation.
Jointly Safeguarding the UN-Centered International System
In the face of the United States wielding tariffs globally, China and Russia, as major world powers, permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and emerging market countries, cannot allow the world to revert to the jungle law of the survival of the fittest. They cannot permit one country's self-interest to override the common good of all nations, nor can they condone the disregard or abandonment of international rules.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War, and the global anti-fascist war, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Additionally, this year, China will assume the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, while Russia will chair the BRICS nations.
It is believed that this visit will serve as an opportunity for China and Russia to work together with the international community to uphold the UN-centered international system and the achievements of World War II, practice genuine multilateralism, defend international fairness and justice, maintain world peace and stability, and contribute to the progress of humanity.
