South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun is facing a financial crisis after being embroiled in a major scandal. In early March, allegations emerged claiming that Kim had an underage relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-ron. Despite Kim's outright denial of these claims, the controversy has severely damaged his public image, causing advertisers to withdraw their endorsement deals.
More than 15 advertising contracts have reportedly been terminated, and lawsuits are mounting. Today (May 3), it was revealed that another company has filed a lawsuit against Kim Soo-hyun and his management agency, seeking KRW 2.8 billion (approximately HK$15 million). The case has already been accepted by the court.
According to a report by South Korean media outlet YTN, advertiser "D"—which was previously believed to be observing the situation—has now taken legal action, with another major advertiser also considering filing a lawsuit. Legal experts believe that other brands may soon follow suit.
A lawyer specializing in South Korea's entertainment industry commented, "Based on industry information, Kim Soo-hyun's advertising contracts with 15 brands typically range from KRW 1 billion to 1.2 billion (approximately HK$5.4 million to HK$6.5 million) per deal. If all 15 brands seek compensation, the total claims may exceed KRW 10 billion (approximately HK$54 million)."
This financial burden could lead to bankruptcy for Kim Soo-hyun, should every advertiser proceed with legal action.
