On April 27 (local time), The New York Times published a visual report highlighting the extent to which an average American household relies on products imported from China. The report stated that it is difficult to imagine what an American household without Chinese products would look like, as many essential items in American homes are almost entirely dependent on imports from China. With the introduction of new tariff policies, the prices of these goods are likely to rise even further.

Gray indicates an import rate of 0–20% from China, green represents 20%–40%, yellow is 40%–60%, orange is 60%–80%, and red signifies 80%–100%.

Walking into American kitchens, many items bear the deep imprint of "Made in China." All household toasters in the US are imported, and nearly all come from China, with an import rate exceeding 99%.

The New York Times noted that for decades, China has invested heavily in developing its manufacturing industry. Today, China produces nearly one-third of the world's physical goods, a scale of production that surpasses the combined outputs of the US, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and the UK.
