Hong Kong has seen another restaurant announce its closure. The chain tea restaurant Daniel's Restaurant, which has a history of 44 years, recently posted a notice at its Mei Foo branch stating it will operate until May 29.
A netizen shared photos of the notice on social media yesterday, noting, "Looks like this is the last branch," sparking discussions among users. The notice indicated that the restaurant is closing due to the expiration of its lease and expressed gratitude to the community for its support since 1981. It confirmed that the Mei Foo branch will continue operations until May 29, 2025.
Many netizens expressed their sadness over the news, sharing comments with crying emojis. Some lamented, "There's nothing to eat in Mei Foo anymore..." while others remained hopeful for the future, saying, "I hope something new comes in."
Daniel's Restaurant is a well-known local dining brand in Hong Kong, originally a dessert shop selling steamed milk and sweet soups before transforming into a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant. At its height, it had 24 branches across Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories. However, in recent years, the brand has faced operational difficulties, and after the closure of its Tin Shui Wai branch last year, it was left with only the Mei Foo branch, which ultimately could not sustain itself and has now announced its complete closure.
