China's AG600 - the world's largest civil amphibious aircraft - has received its type certification from CAAC. Fully homegrown, it's built for firefighting, rescue, and more.
The AVIC AG600 Kunlong is a large amphibious aircraft developed by AVIC and assembled by CAIGA. It is one of the largest flying boats in the world, with a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 53.5 tons (118,000 pounds) and powered by four WJ-6 turboprop engines. Development began in August 2014, and the aircraft was rolled out on July 23, 2016. Its first flight took place on December 24, 2017. The AG600 is expected to receive certification in 2024, with deliveries slated to start in 2025. Designed for various roles, including firefighting and search and rescue operations, it showcases versatility as an amphibious aircraft.
