Reviving manufacturing? US host mocks: Unfortunately, Generation Z only wants to be influencers. (DDN)

In light of Trump's recent trade war and his high-profile claims about bringing manufacturing jobs back to the U.S., many local business owners have expressed criticism.

On April 18, renowned talk show host Bill Maher aired his skepticism about this policy, pointing out its practical challenges. He remarked, even if factories return, who will do these tedious, low-paying jobs? He questioned whether Generation Z would step up, suggesting they are more interested in becoming social media influencers.

During his show, Maher delivered a sharp commentary on the awkward state of the current labor market, highlighting the Trump administration's efforts to bring factories back to America without considering who would take those jobs. He noted that immigrant labor is being systematically deported, and surveys indicate that 57% of young people want to be influencers rather than engage in traditional work. He humorously added, young people even find serving at Cheesecake Factory exhausting; if you ask a young employee in a department store a question, their expression is as if you barged into their apartment and woke them up.

Generation Z generally refers to individuals born from the mid-1990s to 2010. Maher pointed out that this generation rejects traditional manual labor while being enthusiastic about activities like gaming and streaming. He remarked that they even require emotional support animals while flying. Maher concluded by stating that this generation's work philosophy is simple: If you enjoy it, it's not work.
