Nintendo officially revealed its next-generation console, the Switch 2, during a dedicated Direct presentation on April 2. The new hardware will hit shelves globally on June 5, with the Japanese version priced at JP¥49,980 (approx. HK$2,667) and a multilingual edition at JP¥69,980 (approx. HK$3,450).
Industry analyst DFC Intelligence had previously predicted the Switch 2 would become the fastest-selling console in history. However, due to uncertain tariff policies under U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, projected annual sales have been revised downward by 12%, from 17 million to 15 million units.
The tariff fluctuations have also impacted pre-order schedules in North America. Both the U.S. and Canadian markets will see delayed pre-order availability, pushing back from the original June 5 timeline. Nintendo has yet to announce adjusted dates for these regions.
The presentation detailed the Switch 2's upgraded hardware specs and launch titles, though the company remains confident in the console's long-term market performance. Analysts suggest the sales forecast could rebound if tariff conditions stabilize in the latter half of 2025.
