The Hospital Authority (HA) announced on March 29 that the construction of the Hospital Authority Support Services Centre (HASSC) has been substantially completed, and operations are now commencing in phases.
The HASSC will provide essential services such as laundry, patient catering, critical personal protective equipment, linen storage, and data center services, all aimed at enhancing patient support in public hospitals and improving emergency response capabilities.
Dr. Simon Tang, Director of Cluster Services, emphasized the importance of enhancing patient support services to meet increasing healthcare demands. The facility will centrally coordinate patient support services, including catering and laundry, freeing up space for clinical services in public hospitals. The HASSC utilizes automated systems and robotics technology to lower operational costs and boost efficiency. Dr. Law Chun-bon, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon West, acknowledged the collaborative efforts of HA departments in bringing the HASSC to fruition.
The HASSC occupies approximately 62,000 square meters and includes a central laundry center, a central food production unit, a corporate data center, and central emergency stores. The data center and emergency stores have been operational since January, while the laundry and food production services began phased operations in mid-March.
By 2030, the HASSC aims to meet half of the laundry and catering needs of public hospitals and support 50% of the HA's total data center requirements. Furthermore, the central emergency stores will stock essential personal protective equipment and supplies, enhancing the HA's readiness to respond to pandemics and disasters. The establishment of the HASSC marks a significant step forward in supporting public healthcare services, complementing clinical operations, and ensuring that the HA can effectively respond to future challenges.
