The "888 work system" has recently become a trending topic because a representative from the National People's Congress mentioned during the Two Sessions that the "996" long working hours (9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week) are "not good," and that there should be an "888 work system" consisting of 8 hours of work, 8 hours of rest, and 8 hours of personal time.

Hong Kong member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Junius Ho, responded to this topic today (March 10) in a statement to the media, saying that "888" is a positive idea, but he emphasized the need to coordinate it according to one's situation.

Ho stated that the aim of "888" is to achieve a balance between work and rest. Excessive fatigue can lead to serious health issues, while too much leisure can lead to being unproductive. Therefore, the "888 work system" reflects how individuals can balance their work and rest.

He stated that balance does not necessarily mean strictly dividing the 24 hours; it serves merely as an indicator. "When there's a need to rush, you may have to work late, but if you have to work late every day, it will be too overwhelming! So, it (working late) should be occasional, putting in all efforts to achieve goals, whether it's tough or not."

He continued by saying that achieving tasks also relies on personal experience and collaboration with peers. "You can't do everything alone; don't simply think '888' will work at any time... or you need to prepare for calling '999!'"

He pointed out that besides giving it all, having good working partners is essential. "Teamwork is important, balance is also important, but the most crucial aspect is being goal-oriented. If you follow the '888' system but fail to achieve any goals, you will still find yourself in trouble."

Also, Ho stressed that "888" is a guiding principle, and individuals should adapt their work according to their environment and personal development to achieve their goals.
