Today (March 8), marking International Women's Day, the 2025 International Women's Day Reception was held at 11 a.m. Chief Executive John Lee delivered a speech, emphasizing that women make up 54% of Hong Kong's population and have demonstrated remarkable achievements across various fields.
John Lee noted that HK currently has seven female principal officials, accounting for nearly half of the governing team—a record high in the history of HK's accountability system. He also summarized recent initiatives supporting women, including the establishment of the "Women's Empowerment Fund," the hosting of the first-ever Family and Women Development Summit, and the launch of a one-stop information platform for families and women.
In his remarks, Lee extended Women's Day blessings to all women using three symbolic flowers: bauhinia, representing the promotion of family virtues; cotton tree, symbolizing resilience and excellence in the workplace; and plum blossom, signifying strength and the ability to share HK's inspiring stories with the world.
