The opening ceremony of the Kai Tak Sports Park will be held tomorrow (March 1). The Transport Department stated today (Feb. 28) on social media that they will work to ensure that transportation arrangements connecting to the sports park are in place to meet the needs of attendees, visitors, and staff. In addition to using the railway network, attendees can also take several regular bus routes passing through Shing Kai Road and Prince Edward Road East to connect different districts in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories.
Attendees must bring a physical ticket for entry. Those who successfully purchased tickets last week must exchange them for physical tickets at the venue before the event. Attendees are urged to make this exchange as soon as possible within the next two days. As of last 10 pm night, approximately 3,500 tickets had been successfully issued, accounting for about 43%. Tickets can be exchanged today from 12 pm to 10 pm, and a ticket exchange station will also open tomorrow morning, with the cutoff time at 3 pm. To avoid conflicts with the flow of attendees entering the venue at 4:30 pm, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to familiarize themselves with the environment and may also have lunch or browse at the retail area. If anyone sells tickets above the original price, police may take legal action.
Tomorrow, attendees are not allowed to bring large photography equipment, water bottles, or umbrellas longer than 35 centimeters. There will also be paid lockers available for use on-site. Additionally, parking at the retail area will be suspended tomorrow, and attendees are urged to use public transportation to get there.
Enhancing railway services:
The MTR Corporation will implement crowd management at Kai Tak Station and Sung Wong Toi Station, including adjustments to entry and exit arrangements and one-way access at certain entrances and exits to coordinate with police crowd control measures. Additionally, the MTR will enhance train services as needed, such as increasing the frequency of the Tuen Ma Line to match peak morning hours on weekdays or arranging empty trains on standby to quickly transport spectators away.
Operation of special bus routes:
The drop-off point on Sung Wong Toi Road will be used as a boarding point for special bus routes during major events to facilitate the flow of people leaving. During the last three drills, which involved over 50,000 participants each, bus companies operated a total of 10 routes to various major areas in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. The Transport Department will work with bus companies to assess the nature of the events, the number of attendees, and other factors to plan the routes and schedules for special bus services for each event.
Ensuring Sufficient Taxi Supply:
During major events, a temporary drop-off and pick-up point for taxis will be set up on Sung Wong Toi Road. The Transport Department will notify the taxi industry in advance about the opening arrangements for this area and the event's dispersal time. The sports park will also provide real-time information to the taxi industry on the day of the event through messaging platforms, including the number of waiting passengers, and will call for taxis to be available to pick up passengers based on demand.
