Nissan Motor is reportedly contemplating replacing CEO Makoto Uchida due to declining business performance and the failure of merger talks with Honda Motor, according to Bloomberg News.
Nissan's board is exploring interest in potential candidates to succeed Uchida, who has held the CEO position since late 2019. Nissan representatives were not immediately available for comment.
The merger discussions between Nissan and Honda, aimed at creating a US$60 billion automotive company, ended earlier this month. The talks, ongoing since December, collapsed primarily over Honda's proposal to make Nissan a subsidiary.
Following the announcement of the merger's termination, Uchida stated that addressing Nissan's ongoing challenges was his top priority, suggesting he would consider stepping down after resolving these issues.
