Evacuation at Kai Tak Sports Park proceeds as expected: Mable Chan
Yesterday (Jan. 24), Kai Tak Sports Park held a large-scale drill, testing for the first time the maximum capacity of the main stadium, Kai Tak Arena, and Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground simultaneously. Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics stated today (Jan. 25) on a radio program that the evacuation of the audience proceeded as expected.
"The exercise successfully cleared the crowd in about 45 minutes, within expectations... The valuable experience gained from this exercise would assist in future planning."
Chan mentioned that she took the MTR to and from the park yesterday to inspect the situation. Additionally, 10 special bus routes utilized 83 buses, transporting 7,300 people, indicating the popularity of these routes. Last night, 130 taxis were also available to transport passengers.
Chan also expressed deep concern about the recent flight cancellations by Greater Bay Airlines, stating that the company's handling of the situation did not meet the expectations of the public and the government. She mentioned that she immediately met with senior company officials after the incident and requested a report to be submitted within seven days.
To rebuild customer confidence, Chan emphasized that the airline must provide appropriate compensation.
