20th Hong Kong Pet Show to comeback in February
Organized by Exhibition Group, title sponsored by CSL, the largest-ever Hong Kong Pet Show 2025 will be held from Feb. 6 to 9, 2025 (Thursday to Sunday), at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Exhibition Group held a press conference on Jan. 16 to announce the details of the upcoming event and simultaneously released the "Analysis of Spending Trends in Hong Kong Household Pet Ownership."
After 20 years, the "Hong Kong Pet Show" has reached its largest scale to date, with Exhibition Hall 3 covering an area of 260,000 square feet, featuring nearly 400 exhibitors and over 1,000 booths.
This large-scale exhibition gathers the most well-known pet food and supply brands from around the world, likened to a "Brands and Products Expo for the pet industry." The exhibition allows all pet lovers to bring their pets along to shop and enjoy various exciting activities, making it a highly anticipated annual event in the pet community.
On the same day, the Exhibition Group released the "Analysis of Spending Trends in Hong Kong Household Pet Ownership," which surveyed 1,300 members of the public about their pet spending habits through an online questionnaire from December last year to January this year, resulting in 1,000 valid responses. The survey found that the most popular types of pets among Hong Kong residents are dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, and birds, in that order. 80.1% of respondents indicated that their pet-related spending has increased over the past 12 months, with an average monthly expenditure of HK$2,086 on pet care, which is a 6.3% increase from last year's HK$1,962. The market size of the pet industry is projected to reach HK$6.2 billion. Additionally, the proportion of respondents spending between HK$1,501 and HK$2,500 per month increased from 27.5% to 32.4%. 79.1% of respondents expect their pet care spending to increase in the next 6 to 12 months, with over half of them indicating an increase of more than 10%.
Ms. Shirley Chu, General Manager of the Exhibition Group, stated, "The monthly pet market size reaches HK$520 million, totaling over HK$6.2 billion annually. The Hong Kong Pet Show 2025 coincides with the first large-scale public exhibition after the Year of the Snake. This year marks its 20th edition, and it is larger than ever, spanning the entire Exhibition Hall 3 to meet market demand." With the increasing popularity of pet ownership, market demand has driven the diversified development of related industries, covering food, supplies, grooming, medical care, travel, and cultural and creative sectors. Among these, cultural and creative trends have emerged, and to align with this market wave, an International Pet Cultural and Creative Zone has been newly established this year to promote the diverse development of pet culture.
This year's "Hong Kong Pet Show 2025" has introduced new features, including the "Bio-Diverse Pavilion," the "International Pet Cultural and Creative Zone," and a new overseas exhibition area. The "Bio-Diverse Pavilion" showcases various reptile stars, including the first-ever exhibition in Hong Kong of the national first-class protected animal, the Shinisaurus crocodilurus, along with other reptile species such as the Centrochelys sulcata and Iguana iguana, featuring ecological interactions and educational seminars, allowing audiences to explore the mysterious world of reptiles and inspire life education. The "International Pet Cultural and Creative Zone" and the new overseas exhibition area gather multiple domestic and international brands, showcasing creatively designed pet-related products and handmade crafts that combine the unique charm of pets and trendy culture, promoting interaction and development between the pet and cultural industries.
The organizers have always advocated "Love & Respect, We are family." Each year, they invite several charitable organizations and pet associations to participate. Over the past 20 years, the Hong Kong Pet Show has collaborated with more than 22 local non-profit organizations, sponsoring over 470 booths and contributing more than HK$15 million, with each event sponsorship exceeding HK$950,000. For the first time, the Pet Show is partnering with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to launch the "Pet Show 2025 – SLASH POINT Cute Pet Workshops," which will feature a variety of pet-themed workshops, including ceramic pet painting, 3D-printed pet piggy banks, pressed flower pet keychains, caricature drawing, DIY jewelry, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to create unique pet products themselves.
The show will also feature various pet-themed exhibition areas and exciting activities, including the "Hong Kong Kennel Club Lunar New Year Carnival," "the 2025 Spring Blessings CFA Championship Cat Show," the "18th Olympets," and Hong Kong's largest indoor "Pet Fun Theme Park." The Hong Kong Kennel Club Lunar New Year Carnival will have a photo spot for the Year of the Snake and a dog playground, hosting a series of dog-specific activities, such as the "Pet Grooming Creative Competition" and "Amateur Obedience Competition." There will also be workshops and demonstrations for pet grooming, obedience training, and dog talent shows. One highlight is the "Amateur Breed Exemption Competition," where attendees can enjoy a variety of competing dogs, including Shiba Inu, Bichon Frise, Chows, Border Collies, and King Charles Spaniels. The "2025 Spring Blessings CFA Championship Cat Show," an international beauty pageant for pets, will take place over two days with ten rounds of competition, featuring 11 experienced judges from the United States, Finland, Australia, and Hong Kong. Over 100 cats will compete, representing nearly 20 breeds, including Persian cats, Exotic Shorthairs, and Maine Coons. There will also be special showcases of Singapura cats and the newly introduced Toybob cats from Hong Kong, making this an unmissable event for cat lovers.
The second stop of the "18th Olympets" will be held during the expo, featuring various fun competitions, including a 50-foot sprint, 100-foot return, 50-foot hurdles, a triathlon for dogs, high jump, long jump, and a new competition—three-circle chase. The organizers have invited Ryan Lau, Rose Chan, and Ophelia Chung to serve as ambassadors to cheer on the participating dogs and promote pet-friendly concepts. This year, the Show will introduce Hong Kong's largest indoor pet theme park, featuring a Snoopy photo spot and dog training classes, creating diverse interactive experiences for owners and their pets. Additionally, to promote Hong Kong as a pet-friendly city, the Show is partnering with KMB to launch the "Pet Bus Tour," offering drop-off points at the Convention Centre in Wan Chai on Feb. 8 and 9 for convenience, allowing owners and their pets to participate in events. The program will provide multiple routes on weekends and holidays, covering various pet-friendly hotspots in Central, West Kowloon, Sha Tin, Tai Po, Ma Wan, and Sai Kung, enabling owners and pets to enjoy the fun of bus outings together and enhancing the convenience and appeal of pet-friendly facilities.
During the expo, the Hong Kong Pet Show will co-host the "Overseas Business Matching and Networking Session" with the Hong Kong Pet Trade Association, inviting industry leaders and exhibitors from oversea to explore industry trends and share experiences while exchanging insights on the latest market developments. The "Mo City Favorite Pet Brand Award 2024" ceremony will recognize the most beloved quality pet brands in the public eye, setting a benchmark for the industry and promoting its development. There will also be a "Mastercard® Spending Scratch Card Lucky Draw," where attendees who spend at least HK$500 at designated booths using a Mastercard can participate. Each HK$500 spent qualifies for one entry, with HK$1,000 earning two entries, up to a maximum of 10 entries per receipt. Prizes include round-trip tickets for two to Tokyo, Seoul, and Taipei, with over 4,000 prizes available. Participants can redeem scratch cards to instantly learn their draw results.
