The KTT (Kowloon-Guangzhou Through Train), which ceased operations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and officially ended its historical mission last year, will make a public return next Thursday, Jan. 23.

Some train cars will be featured as new exhibits at the "Station View" railway exhibition at Hung Hom Station.

The train's exterior is primarily colored in green, blue, and white, retaining the KTT logo from before the merger of the two railways. The public will have the opportunity to board the train and explore its interior facilities. The KTT train was first put into service in 1998, operating between Hung Hom and Guangzhou.

Additionally, the General Administration of Customs announced on July 31, 2024, that it will close four cross-boundary railway ports between mainland China and Hong Kong, including Beijing West, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Dongguan. This decision was made because the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link now sufficiently meets the travel needs of passengers between the mainland and Hong Kong. This announcement effectively marks the retirement of over a century of cross-boundary train services between Hong Kong and the mainland, including the original Kowloon-Guangzhou railway line.
