Tai Kwun exceeds 20 mn visitors, to present light projection show at end of January
With over 20 million visits since its opening in 2018, Tai Kwun stands at the crossroads of the historic and the contemporary, reflecting the vibrant connection between the community and the space. This milestone not only reflects the popularity of Tai Kwun but also celebrates the countless visitors who have made the centre a part of their lives, with a record-breaking 4.7 million visits in the past year alone.
The milestone marks a moment of appreciation and renewed focus. Following the joy of December's Christmas festivities, Tai Kwun will present InnerGlow and Searchlight, illuminating the Parade Ground and Prison Yard each evening from late January to mid-February, celebrating the fusion of art, technology, and community spirit.
Since opening its doors, Tai Kwun has blossomed into an enchanting cultural sanctuary, delighting visitors with over 200 spellbinding programs last year that weave together contemporary art, heritage exploration, and performing arts, further enriching Hong Kong's cultural landscape and drawing local and international audiences alike. Recognitions such as the FRAME Awards "2024's Furniture of the Year" for Tai Kwun Chairs and the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2024's "Spatial Design Merit Award" for "Memoir in Neon" honored and celebrated the compound's ongoing commitment to excellence and the transformative impact Tai Kwun continues to have on Hong Kong.
Chin Chin Teoh, Director of JCCPS, shares the excitement, "Welcoming over 20 million visits is a profound milestone for Tai Kwun. This achievement reflects our commitment to creating meaningful experiences that inspire, educate, and connect. We extend our gratitude to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for their visionary commitment in conserving and revitalizing Tai Kwun, breathing new life into this historic treasure, creating a vibrant cultural home where heritage, art, and sharing experiences weave seamlessly into the fabric of Hong Kong life, touching hearts and inspiring minds with each visit. Together, we celebrate not only our past achievements but also the limitless potential for future moments of joy and discovery."
