Putin and Vučić express condolences over Xizang earthquake
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday (Jan. 7) expressed his "sincerest condolences" to Chinese President Xi Jinping over a devastating earthquake in Xizang.
"Russia shares the grief of those who have lost relatives and close ones as a result of this natural disaster, and hopes for a speedy recovery," Putin told Xi in a message posted by the Kremlin.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić posted on social media on Jan. 7, also expressing condolences over the strong earthquake that occurred in China. Vučić expressed deep condolences over the loss of life and injuries caused by the earthquake. He said that at this difficult time, Serbia stands with the families of the victims, the injured, and all Chinese. Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric also reiterated Serbia's full support for China.
A 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurred at 9:05 am on Jan. 7 in Dingri County, Xizang, China. As of 7 pm, the earthquake has killed 126 people and injured 188 people.
