At 7:09 a.m. today (Jan. 6), a truck driving along Lin Cheung Road toward the Western Harbour Crossing hit the rear of a garbage truck near Tonkin Street West, off Hoi Tat Estate, trapping the truck driver in the cab. Upon receipt of the report, firefighters used tools to cut open the vehicle door and rescued the driver. Still, the driver fell into a coma and was taken by ambulance to Kwong Wah Hospital for emergency treatment, but was later confirmed to have died.

It was reported that the driver of the garbage truck was not present at the scene, and the police are now investigating.
The Transport Department (TD) announced that due to a traffic accident, part of the traffic lane from Lin Cheung Road to Western Harbour Crossing near Tonkin Street West is now closed, and motorists can only use the remaining traffic lane, and the traffic at the above location is now heavy.
