The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law, said today (Jan. 4) that Hong Kong welcomed 45 million visitors last year, slightly below the Hong Kong Tourism Board's estimate of 46 million. However, she emphasized that he is not fixated on this discrepancy; rather, his goal is to gradually improve the visitor experience to make tourists fall in love with Hong Kong again.
Responding to concerns about whether there are too many tourists in Hong Kong, Law acknowledged these feelings and recognized that the city may not fully satisfy all visitors. She aims for a gradual improvement to enhance the visitor experience.
When asked if there is a target for visitor numbers to return to pre-pandemic levels this year, Law noted that it depends on transport capacity.
Regarding extending the boundary-crossing period for the Chinese New Year, Lam mentioned that past experiences indicate that the peak of inbound traffic usually occurs on the third day of the Chinese New Year.
"The authorities will evaluate the situation and develop appropriate plans accordingly," she added.
