Survey: 8.6% of drug taker respondents have taken new drug 'space oil'

The Hong Kong Christian Service, which provides drug rehabilitation services, conducted a survey revealing that half of the interviewed drug takers primarily consume marijuana, ketamine, and cocaine, while 8.6% have taken the new drug called "space oil". Eighty percent of respondents said they take drugs at home or a friend's house, raising concerns that these issues may go unnoticed, according to RTHK.

Psychiatrist Dr. Matthew Wong cautioned that long-term use of space oil could lead to irreversible damage. "When someone is using the drug repeatedly and also receiving a high dose, that will cause damage to brain cells and create some irreversible chemical imbalance in the brain," he said. "That will bring all sorts of physical and mental problems the patient would be suffering from."

From September to November this year, the Christian Service interviewed 304 drug takers via a questionnaire, finding that the average age of taking a first drug is 19.5 years, with the youngest user being only 9 years old.

The Christian Service urges the public and those around drug takers to accompany and encourage them to seek help as soon as possible.
