The statistics department announced today (Dec. 17) that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the period from September to November this year remains at 3.1%, while the underemployment rate also remains unchanged at 1.1%.
The latest figures show that compared to the period from August to October, the unemployment and underemployment rates across various industries have changed somewhat inconsistently, but the overall fluctuations are generally small. The number of unemployed from September to November stands at 119,700, a decrease of about 1,000 people. The number of underemployed has also decreased by about 600, dropping to 41,700. The total employment figure has slightly increased to 3.7118 million, with an increase of about 4,700 people.
Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Chris Sun, noted that the unemployment rates in the building decoration, repair and maintenance industry, the insurance industry, and postal and courier services have seen significant increases.
Conversely, the unemployment rates in the warehousing, transportation support services, and arts, entertainment, and recreation sectors have shown notable decreases. Looking ahead, he believes that the labor market should remain generally stable in the short term, although certain industries may be affected by increasing uncertainty in the global economy and rising trade tensions.
