145,000 mainland visitors to HK yesterday, nearly 30% higher than last month: Rosanna Law
The new Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law, said at her first public sports event and meeting with the media that there were 145,000 mainland visitors to Hong Kong yesterday (Dec. 7), 28.5% higher than the average daily visitor arrivals in November, which is believed to be a result of the resumption of the "multiple-entry visas" which has brought new opportunities to Hong Kong.
Law said that Hong Kong's retail, catering, entertainment, transportation and tourism-related industries are full of opportunities, and that the large number of tourists visiting Hong Kong has made them work together; she also heard some mainland tourists say that they saw more smiles and better Putonghua among Hong Kong people.
Law hopes that this situation will continue, saying that the most important thing is to be flexible and to think about how to capitalize on the business opportunities.
Law thanked the central government again for its special support and care for Hong Kong and for providing so many measures to benefit Hong Kong. She also mentioned that Ocean Park was very busy this morning, with the giant pandas An An and Ke Ke meeting the public for the first time, and the Park's crowd control measures. She praised the Park for making good arrangements.
