According to a report by China News, on Dec. 5 local time, the United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) revealed shocking claims following its investigation in Colombia. The report disclosed that a hangar at Bogota's El Dorado International Airport houses approximately 20,000 unidentified bodies.
The committee examined cases linked to enforced disappearances, forced recruitment, human trafficking, land conflicts, and migration-related disappearances in Colombia. These issues, the report states, have contributed to a significant number of missing persons over the years.
The CED estimates the number of disappeared individuals to range between 98,000 and 200,000. The discrepancy between institutional records makes it difficult to determine the exact figure. Many of these individuals remain unaccounted for, with no means of identification or recovery.
The Committee has shared its preliminary findings with Colombia and will publish a full public report between March 17 and April 4, 2025.
