South Korea's imported car sale fell for the second straight month due to a supply shortage of some models, industry data showed Wednesday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here lost 3.9 percent from a year earlier to 23,784 in November after sliding 0.4 percent in the previous month, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

The consecutive slump was attributable to the supply shortage of some luxury models.

For the first 11 months of this year, the imported vehicle sale slipped 1.7 percent to 239,764 units compared to the same period of last year.

German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 6,665 units last month.

Another German carmaker Mercedes-Benz came next with the local sale of 5,086 units, followed by U.S. automaker Tesla with 3,618 units, Japanese automaker Lexus with 1,370 units, Volvo with 1,319 units and Volkswagen with 1,077 units.

The number of European models sold here came to 17,114 last month, accounting for 72.0 percent of the total. U.S. and Japanese brands recorded market shares of 18.7 percent and 9.4 percent each.
