Chain store SUKIYA raises prices again due to higher rice prices in Japan
SUKIYA, one of the fast-food restaurant chains, announced that it will increase the prices of some items at its outlets across Japan starting from the 22nd day of the month, due to the increase in the price of rice in Japan, which has led to an increase in the prices of donburi and other food items.
The price increase mainly involves items such as beef donburi rice and fixed meals, with a range of 10 yen to 60 yen (about HK$0.5 to HK$3).
Sukiya's parent company, Zensho Holdings, said that due to the continued high price of rice, it has decided to increase the price of medium to extra-large bowls of beef donburi rice, including tax. This is the first time SUKIYA has raised the price of donburi twice in one year since April this year.
The reasons for the increase in the price of rice in Japan include the high price of raw materials such as fertilizers and the fierce competition among Japanese rice buyers, which has led to the trading price of new rice reaching a record high. As a result, in addition to the donburi industry, other food companies and frozen food companies have also decided to increase the prices of their products.
