Mission of China to EU strongly opposes EU criticism of HK's national security efforts
The Mission of China to the European Union responded to the EU's statement regarding Hong Kong, emphasizing its strong opposition to the EU's interference in the judicial independence of other countries under the pretense of upholding so-called "democracy and the rule of law."
The spokesperson pointed out that while advocating for security priorities, the EU nonetheless criticizes other countries for maintaining their national security.
The spokesperson reiterated that adherence to the law and accountability for violations are fundamental principles of a lawful society. No one is allowed to engage in illegal activities under the guise of "democracy" while attempting to evade legal consequences. The central government of China firmly supports the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in safeguarding national security and lawfully punishing activities that threaten it.
Furthermore, the spokesperson stressed that Hong Kong affairs are purely a matter of China's internal governance and should not be subject to external interference. China firmly opposes the EU's attempts to interfere in judicial independence under the guise of promoting "democracy and the rule of law." The spokesperson urged the EU to abide by international law and the basic principles of international relations, respect China's sovereignty and the rule of law in Hong Kong, and cease its interference in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal matters.
