On Nov. 18, PipeChina announced the completion of the China-Russia east-route natural gas pipeline, the landmark project of China-Russia energy cooperation and a paradigm of deep convergence of both countries. The fully constructed pipeline has entered the final preparation phase before becoming operational.
The pipeline stretches from Heihe in Heilongjiang Province in the north to Shanghai in the south. It is crucial to China's four major oil and gas strategic corridors.
Once operational, the pipeline will deliver 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, providing a stable supply to key regions, including the Northeast, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, and the Yangtze River Delta. This capacity is enough to meet the yearly gas needs of 130 million urban households.
The pipeline is expected to deliver over 50 million cubic meters of gas daily, benefiting 400 million people along its route.
As the third cross-border gas pipeline supplying China, following the Central Asia-China and Myanmar-China pipelines, the China-Russia east-route natural gas pipeline is vital in securing the country's energy supply.
